It is August in Texas.
The temperature is in the triple digits, parents wait anxiously for their kids to go back to school, football teams are starting their fall practices, and with an election year looming political hopefuls are starting their campaigns.
Just like the creepy cicadas that come out every few years to mate, conservatives across Texas crawl out from under their rocks to pitch their hats into the ring for various elected offices.
Since the 1980’s the familiar GOP face for the 4th US Congressional District, my home district thanks to the rampant gerrymandering in this state, has been Ralph Hall. Every two years he would quietly get the Republican nod and the gullible voters in this district would send him to Washington D.C. to be a rubber stamp for the right wing. He has never met a law written by ALEC he didn’t like and would mindlessly vote no for anything the left came up with.
This year is different though. With an approval rating falling past the teens our Congress finds its popularity somewhere between a prostate exam and the Bubonic Plague. Since the Republicans have been in the driver seat it has fallen on them to change their ways to be more appealing to voters or become extinct like the dinosaurs they claim never existed.
As usual they come up with the wrong answer, as can be seen in all the Tea Party hopefuls popping up not only this district, but all over Texas. Do I really need to point to anyone else but nutty Louis Gohmert and his “Terror Babies” theory? Instead of trying to find their way back closer to center, where the majority of voters can be found, they are trying to pander to the fringe elements of their party and try to outdo each other on how extreme right wing they can go.
For some reason the Tea Baggers think there isn’t enough crazy in this state.
Which brings us to our first contestant, who really should mind what he says to citizens of his district. You know how you have the right to remain silent when under arrest, same goes for if you are campaigning for votes.
Mr. Lou Gigliotti bills himself as “Business man and race car driver” for Congress. He promotes “small government” and wants someone new to represent the 4th Congressional District and free us from the “ruling class” of politicians.
Of course, he doesn’t give one idea, one shred of policy he would support to attain his goal. Nor does he give any qualifications other than being successful at driving a car in circles and running a business that sells custom cars to the wealthy. His official website is a real must read for a good laugh.
Mr. Gigliotti, why do YOU think you can represent the diverse population of this congressional district? Of course his official stance if people are poor because they are lazy and it is your own fault for not being a millionaire.
Of course, be aware if you have any viewpoint that opposes Lou’s you will be met with hostility and extreme right wing bantering. When confronted with supporting his views he will use the usual talking points pulled from Fox News, Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh. For good measure he will also pull some things out of his ass.
He is a fan of Ted Cruz, which should be enough to tell you where his viewpoints lie, and doesn’t like the president. Of course he has a problem with Obama because of the same reason the rest of them do, but is too spineless to say it. He hates having a BLACK man in the WHITE House.
Can you really give much credit to someone who thinks fascism is a left wing ideology and thinks the Nazis were socialists? Perhaps one of the mindless followers of this congressional “hopeful” would bother to buy him a dictionary and a history book to remind this man that fascism and socialism are diametrically opposed to one another. I would expect that someone who claims to have been a certified math teacher would know the difference.
Then again, when it comes to the newest additions to the conservative party all bets are off. There really is no debating these sorts of people as they make up their facts as they go and disregard any real facts that don’t support their narrow-minded point of view.
Lets look at the following excerpt from his Facebook page concerning the clown who got canned for mocking Obama.
“Apparently Free Speech Doesn’t Exist Anymore: Rodeo Clown Banned for Life From Missouri Fair for Crime of Sassing the President
Eh, America had a good run.
The Missouri State Fair on Monday imposed a lifetime ban on a rodeo clown whose depiction of President Barack Obama getting charged by a bull was widely criticized by Democratic and Republican officials alike.
The rodeo clown won’t be allowed to participate or perform at the fair again. Fair officials say they’re also reviewing whether to take any action against the Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association, the contractor responsible for Saturday’s event.
The entertainment during the bull riding contest featured a clown wearing a mask of Obama with an upside down broomstick attached to his backside. Spectators were asked if they wanted to see “Obama run down by a bull.” Many in the audience responded enthusiastically.
Numerous Missouri officials denounced the act after video and photos were posted online. Some Democratic Missouri lawmakers suggested Monday that there should be financial consequences for the fair.
I guess in America, in these trying times, we all have to Watch What We Say.”
So, let me get this right Mr. Gigliotti, the clown did a highly disrespectful act forcing the State Fair of Missouri to impose a life time ban and you think this has anything to do with a tyrannical government and a limit to free speech. You should really lay off whatever you have been smoking. I am guessing you didn’t get outraged when the Dixie Chicks were black listed for making fun of George W. Bush.
Let me put this in simple words so your simple mind can comprehend. A paid employee of a business did something costumers didn’t like and forced his employer to take action to protect its interests. Do I also need to remind you that Missouri is a right to work state, so you can be fired for nothing?
Of course a “prominent” businessman like you should know this. The customers pay YOUR salary after all, then again you seem like the type who really doesn’t care because there will always be another sucker to buy from you. Just like there will be the gullible types who will vote for you.
I assure you, Obama didn’t call the State Fair of Missouri and demand this man be terminated. The fact that certain Republican and Democratic politicians agreed this was a dick move by clown has no baring on the issue what so ever. The fair fired the clown for the fair’s own business interests, not because of some vast government conspiracy. Of course, that point is completely lost on you because you found absolutely nothing wrong with the stunt. I guess clowns have to stick up for one another.
I am not going to go into a long discussion on how this man is not right for Texas or the United States. You can view that for yourself on his website.
He is right about one thing. Washington is broke and needs fixing. But you don’t fix something by replacing the broken part with a faulty one. Someone who has worked on cars for as long as he keeps bragging should know that.
A prospective politician also doesn’t throw mud at voters. Get one thing straight Lou, if elected, which I hope to the gods in heaven you don’t, you will work for the citizens. That is why they are called REPRESENTATIVES.
For someone who wants change in Washington, you sound like every other Republican. You hate immigrants, you hate science, you hate government and you hate the majority of the people you want to represent.
For the record, when running for an elected office, you may want to watch what you say. Then again, if you didn’t then voters wouldn’t know who Lou Gigliotti is an might have just voted for you.
If for the odd chance you are elected then that will be the day I lose all faith in the voters in this state. But something tells me the only way you will see the inside of Congress is on a tour. If you can’t respect the voters in your own district you don’t deserve ANY votes.
EDIT…It has been brought to my attention that Missouri is not a right to work state. Please excuse the over-site on my part. Though, I doubt the clown can say much about getting canned as his act was pretty outlandish. Bravo to Missouri for not joining the rest of the South with this destructive law.
